Google to Lay Pacific Undersea Cable

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google is in discussions to join a group that is looking to put fiber cable under the pacific ocean. The article points to Google’s ambitions to offer data intensive services such as email, online video, and word processing as it expands overseas. According to Colby Synesael, an analyst at Merriman Curhan Ford & Co., this could allow Google to have greater control over its operating costs and infrastructure needs.
